Tax Credit Legislation
Tax Credit Legislation Passed!
RFW's Business Tax Credit bill was passed and signed into law by the Governor on October 26, 2007 after the Legislature and the Governor came to an agreement on the state budget. The bill, which was introduced last February, gives a 5% tax credit to businesses that contract with Community Rehabilitation Programs (CRPs) and will increase work opportunities for people with disabilities. The tax credit will take effect in July of 2009. This major win for CRPs could not have been achieved without the grassroots advocacy efforts of RFW members and the hard work of of legislators like Assemblyman Robin Vos and State Senator Dave Hansen, who worked to keep the tax credit in the final version of the state budget.
Business Tax Credit Legislation (LRB 1413/1 and LRB 1786/1)
The general concept of the proposed tax credit is to have the State of Wisconsin award credits to businesses that contract work to qualified nonprofit Community Rehabilitation Programs (CRP's). This would create an incentive for businesses to outsource manufacturing and other commercial services to CRP's, which will increase work opportunities for people with disabilities.
