For the past two to three months, the pace in the Careers Industries Fulfillment Services Department has been hectic as equipment and film have been delivered and participants have started training for the jobs that have been created due to a contract the State of Wisconsin awarded Careers. Under the contract, all state agencies, as well as all state municipalities, will be able to purchase canliner (garbage) bags from Careers. The State Use Program encourages job growth for Wisconsin residents with disabilities through the purchasing power of the state. Careers provides over 175 jobs through subcontract light assembly, collating and packaging for area businesses at its two locations.

According to Careers' Fulfillment Services Director, Jim Ryan, "For the third year running, we have provided full employment for our participant-employees!!! This very important standard of success has occurred because our workforce is a dependable and quality-driven team of individuals for our customers. And, we have customers who value both what we do and who we are. And, a little bit of luck in economically challenging times doesn't hurt either."

The State Use Program has made this new manufacturing operation of canliner garbage bags possible. State Use means that the state of Wisconsin uses its purchasing power to create jobs for persons with disabilities. It is a win-win-win policy for the State, customers and, most especially, for participant-employees. For every crew of four workers, Careers will provide good paying jobs for persons with disabilities. And as the business grows, they will add new teams and new jobs. Jim Ryan comments, "Manufactured by Careers Industries, Inc. – That has a very nice ring to it! And, it is on the label of every case of canliners (garbage bags) that will be purchased by State of Wisconsin Agencies and others. We will create manufacturing jobs for our participant-employees and benefit from our committed production work force as well. In 2006, we look forward to adding this product sales component to our labor services business and hope to benefit from such a diversification."
