Keynote Speakers and Special Guests!
Wednesday Opening Session Speaker: Amy Long
To get in contact with Amy, visit www.power2u.org. Amy received four or five different diagnosis while in the mental health system years ago. She refused to be seen through those labels and fought to regain her voice and take charge of her healing journey. She is herself a survivor of the mental health system and personal trauma and believes that the "healer lies within." She speaks with passion and humor and challenges us to "push the envelope" with the system today, so as to provide an environment where healing can and will happen.
Thursday General Session & Keynote Speaker: Glenn McIntyre
Find out more about Glenn, visit www.glennmcintyre.com. Always there is a Way! This is the life-changing message that Glenn McIntyre lives by and will proudly present with his partner- his service dog, Boylan - as the keynote speaker for the 2007 Rehabilitation and Transition Conference. With humor and riveting insight, Glenn speaks straight from the heart about his life since becoming a paraplegic.
As a young police officer, Glenn's life was forever altered when he was hit by an impaired driver, leaving him a paraplegic by breaking his back in 17 places. Through eight months of hospitalization and intolerable pain, Glenn had to learn to endure, overcome and then excel at life again. And he did! Not only did Glenn return to law enforcement for another 14 years, he also became an instructor at California State University Northridge and a top-ten nationally ranked wheelchair tennis competitor. Perhaps more importantly, Glenn developed the skills for success that he has been sharing with audiences since 1989.
By overcoming challenges and through his commitment to inspiring and educating others, Glenn is living proof that...ALWAYS THERE IS A WAY!
Boylan A. Kaynyne
Boylan A. Kaynyne dedicates his life to partnering with Glenn in his personal and professional life. A purebred black Labrador Retriever, Boylan completed hours of training as a Canine Companion before joining forces with Glenn. Together they make a formidable team that has thrilled audiences nationally with their story of triumph. Humble at heart, Boylan prefers to let Glenn take center stage but enjoys joining his best friend to demonstrate his own special skills and a few tricks to boot! When not on the road, Boylan loves relaxing at home with his family.
Friday Closing Session Speaker: LeDerick Horne
Find out more about LeDerick, visit him online at http://www.horneonline.com/poet/. LeDerick spent most of his time in school believing he didn't have much of a future. A severe learning disability, combined with low self-esteem, led him to doubt he would be able to go to college or have a meaningful career. But, through a learning disabilities resource program, he was able to succeed, and graduate from college with honors. LeDerick has devoted himself to inspiring and advocating for people with disabilities.
